Clare Drama Festival was initiated in 1946 and has been held almost every year since. It was not held in 2001 due to the foot and mouth epidemic and again in 2020 because of coronavirus.

Determined not to be thwarted again in 2021, Scariff Bay Community Radio and Clare Drama Festival have joined forces to organise this year’s festival as a radio event. The Festival Committee has been in touch with drama groups around the country inviting them to submit radio plays for this year’s festival. To date the committee has received some twenty entries from all four provinces and the festival will get underway on Saturday 27th February at 8pm. All the plays will be broadcast on Scariff Bay Community Radio on Saturday and Sunday evenings finishing on Easter Sunday night.

The adjudicator is Paul Brennan, he will offer comments nightly and will complete final adjudication on Easter Sunday night.

An expression of interest for a ten year licence from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has been submitted by Scariff Bay Community Radio .
